Wednesday Cravings: Badges!

"We don't need no stinking Badges!"

Why yes, YES WE DO!!!!!!! Especially when they are the most adorable hand embroidered, hand painted, silk-screened merit badges for some pretty spiffy accomplishments!

My latest cravings come from Lee Meszaros and her Be Proud Merit Badges Etsy shop.

Here are just a few of my favorites.

for 'pushing the envelope':

for 'steaming up the sheets':

for 'having meat on your bones':

for 'flipping the bird':

and the one I am excited to earn very soon....

for 'tying the knot':

Be sure to visit her shop for even more sweet and funny merit badges. I'm sure you can think of someone worthy of each and every one.

Happy is...

My first blog award! YAYs!!!

I'm totally flattered to be chosen by the fabulous Debbie of GirlWhimsy for this sweet happy award! There are even cupcakes! Be sure to check out her blog, it always makes me smile.   :)   <---- see

With this award I'm to list 10 things that make me happy and try to do at least one today.
Tag 10 bloggers that brighten my day and they are to link back to my blog and make their own 'Makes Me Happy' list.

10 things of happy (or 12):

I have to start off with a couple of sappy happies but true:
  • Y ~ Everyday is happy, no matter what, because of how he loves me and how he looks at me (told you it was sappy).
  • Zira ~ Always wanted a kitty and this kitty loved me from day one even though she has never loved anyone other than Y, ever. She is happy love. O, and obviously astute!
K, back to the 10:
*UPDATE*  ~ today besides the top two sappy happies, I drank out of a pink bendy straw, wore cute skull socks and fed a stray kitty.
    I pass this award onto:
All you bloggers brighten my days. It was so hard to only pick 10.

This has been an extremely busy week for me. When it rains it pours, never fails. Luckily, most of it is due to some exciting opportunities.

I have been missing my blog rounds and feel so out of touch :(
I will catch up with all of you soon.

    Just a Tease

Finally able to put some design time in my studio.  The shops are understocked and I've had so many ideas swimming in my head whilst recouping.

Here's a small sample of new items heading to the Wonderland Dreams and Foxy Monster shops.

Photos tomorrow for some and listings this weekend and through next week.  More designs still to come. The Superfly Delicious shop has been super neglected.  Must remedy that very soon as well.

    K, back to work!

Invading Downtown, Kittehs! Well, sort of.

I feel well enough to be a bit mobile so I decided to take a few quick snaps of some special handmade Christmas goodies sent to me from some very talented friends. The photos don't do them justice because I had to use my half dead Canon Elph, my apologies :(

    Space Invader Christmas Stocking:

M, one of my best friends, made this Christmas Stocking for me.  She is very talented and crafty in all sorts of mediums and that's not even taking into account that she's also a yummy pastry chef! Yes, I was very spoiled all through college. I do miss those homemade cookie and candy plates we used to all get from her at every holiday. Yummers! She's the one that made me the knitted Dalek as well. Yes, geek also runs through my veins.

Here's a close up of the invaders:

So adorable! I'm going to use it year round in my studio.  I don't want to hide it in the Christmas box until next year. It's too groovy!

I was also part of Angela's (Pickles on Pizza) Blogger Christmas Swap as well.  My partner was Kathy (Four Dog Day) and Angela got me.

Kathy is a sock enthusiast like myself, so I knew I wanted to get her socks.  I found an awesome pair.  So awesome, I got the same socks for myself in the pink colorway. They are so soft and cozy. They even put vitamin E on your feet as you walk! I also sent her one of my handmade Gingerbread Girl necklaces from my Foxy Monster shop.  You can see them in her blog post about the swap.

When I found out Angela had ended up with me as her partner, I got excited and started to make some secret wishes. It worked! Long ago I had 'hearted' one of the fab collages in her Etsy shop. It sold awhile ago but she does sell prints. There are many items I have 'hearted' in her shop but this is my all time favorite and it's exactly what I wished for!

The print is super high quality and photos do not do it any justice. The print is full of rich details and I can only envy the lucky person who owns the original. What was even better is that this was delivered to me just a few days after being rushed to emergency surgery. I was feeling pretty low at that moment.  Suddenly, in walks Y with a huge flat stiff mailer covered in this:

Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrfection!  It seemed all would be right with the world. Things were definitely looking up. How could my mood not perk up with all this pink kitty holiday goodness! What's funny is that Angela had stressed a bit due to her package ending up 'late' per her instructions for the swap. Everything happens for a reason.  I needed this just when it got to me.

Thanks to all of my friends & family everywhere who made this past holiday special for me.  It started out very scary but so much love and many good things have come my way through it all, that it will be remembered as one of the best.

And to Y, I love you. I couldn't have anyone better at my side.

Wednesday Cravings: Fanny pack/Bum Bag...just wait!

I admit it. Back in the early 90s I was a fanny pack/bum bag toting fashionista [cough]. I had one. Only one. A black nylon, nondescript, mid-sized, zippered bag of miracle. I mostly wore it when I traveled, which I did heaps in the 90s. Ok and when I went to amusement parks and the likes. Never lost nothing on a roller coaster. If I ever did sport it as casual gear, I have blocked that out of my mind and I'm going with that.

C'mon, it was the perfect place to keep your gear close, safe and attached. Hands free action, no prob. Have shoulders that can't keep a bag strap (or bra strap for that matter) on to save your life? Strap across the chest, à la messenger style, emphasize stuff a little too much? Backpack waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much? You paranoid? Fanny pack is here to save your day. Carry your wallet, passport, makeup, camera, snacks and English to [insert current local language] phrase book. A miracle.

Time ticked on. I didn't travel as much anymore. When I did, I started keeping my moola and passport um, much closer and very hidden, let's leave it at that. Whilst traveling I developed a bag fetish to match my already extreme shoe fetish. France, Italy and Spain will do that to a girl. I was soon buying bags to bring back bags (and shoes). Plus, the fanny pack was, postmortem, somewhat shredded at the zipper from overloading and riddled with thin shiny spots from hard metal objects trying to escape the squeeze inside. Not presentable at all.

Then my career took over. You become a massive bag lady when you're an interior designer. You basically haul rocks for a living.  All those tile, stone, carpet, wood, paint, laminate, metal and cool new thingy you just discovered samples have to get to the presentation.  In San Francisco, my office was located in the South of Market (SOMA) district (around the corner from the MOMA, lol) so you were hauling while walking to the clients. Drive? It's just a few 4 or 8 or 10 city blocks and you would have to park 11 blocks away after circling for an hour and the meeting's in 30.  All this in heels mind you.  That's another story for another day.

Once I left San Francisco and my career took on another life, I found myself liberated.  Liberated from the need to haul anything around.  Just my slick metal wallet, cell phone and keys. No makeup, as 1. I have discovered how to keep my makeup on all day pretty much without any need of touch up and 2. I now live in Seattle where natural is king, errr, queen. It's true, pigs fly. I go outside without makeup, in public, only sunscreen and yes, I allow people to see me like this. Well, strangers mainly. Mostly at the post office and Whole Foods.

But what about those rare occasions when I do have to carry something else? Or having my phone and wallet in my hands is not conducive to the occasion and cumbersome within my jeans' pockets? I'll usually ask Y to cart some of my stuff for me in his pockets if he's there (hey, at least I don't ask him to hold my purse) or if I have the polar fleece on, I just stuff those pockets.  Seattle is a super casual town.  I'm still getting used to that aspect.  I'm always thinking I have to dress up for stuff, told I don't and then am relieved I listened and am wearing the Seattle uniform: jeans, groovy comfy shoes, something cozy up top and maybe a hoodie. To varying degrees that's the uniform. I refuse to deal with an ever falling shoulder strap anymore and a bag in my hand is too much at times. So whatever.

    Then I saw this:

    and this:

OMG! It's too perfect and so dang cute!!!!
Kinies Ruffled Waist Purses! All different kinds!

    in black

    and even chiffon!

I really, really, really want one! I can't decide between the three variants I have shown here. The black corduroy would be my normal move, black chiffon way fun but the blue gray corduroy is so dang cute with the jeans! They have other colors and plaid as well. I'm slightly leaning towards the blue at the mo but black would definitely go with my wardrobe hands down. Now I just have to figure out why I need it. Just gimme some time to think on that and maybe there will be more fabric choices. I could use the 'I just had surgery' [pouty face-saucer eyes-bats lashes] ploy with Y but I just had surgery and it wasn't cheap. So, I wait.

You don't! Go take a gander and check out Kinies other awesome bags and scarves. If I still had that bag fetish I would be in big trouble in that shop. These days my fashion fetish is limited to socks.

Hi, my name is Z and I am a Craft Cult addict.

I can spend hours perusing the Etsy front page treasury lists in The Vault. Since I have been laid up recouping from emergency surgery the past two weeks (don't fret, I am doing heaps better and I haven't talked about it because it's been stressful and I want to stay positive and move on and not moan and groan about it), I've had a ton a time [sigh] to spend in The Vault via my iPhone. So much so, that my gaze actually veered from its normally transfixed trance upon the parade of Etsy eye candy and I noticed a 'search for member' link.

What the heck, I'll enter foxymonster [click].

GADZOOKS!!! I was A-L-M-O-S-T on the Etsy front page!!!!!!

See there at the bottom. My Marie Antoinette Masquerade Earrings are in the middle of the 'Alternate Picks' for the front page.

ErinJade I heart you. She's the lovely soul who created this treasury which was on the front page of Etsy at 2:00am EST, Sunday, October 18, 2009. If a few things had sold, my earrings would have made it and then, massive exposure, Sunday 2am EST massive at least.  Well, that's the dream all us Etsians dream anyway.

I have to get on that dang elusive Front Page.  This means better photographs!!! Dang it dark, no sun, Seattle rain, cute little Craftsman house with hardly any windows or lights!!!!! I will find a way!!!! First stop, a friggin' camera store with some powerful lamps.  These dang things from Home 'Despot' are not strong enough!  I swear to you, the house sucks any light that manages to sneak in. Your time is nigh little light sucking house, we be moving soon! [end rant]

I'm still sooooper excited that I was an alternate.  It's a bit of props. You know, the "it's just an honor to be nominated" kind when they pan to you at the Oscars after your name was not called, yeah, like that.

I can dream and work hard so it's just a matter of time. [tick tick tick]
